Overview

Identifying an address, prefix, or MAC is a constant part of network work. NetStacks includes the common lookups inline so you don't have to leave for a browser or shell mid-investigation.

Available Lookups

  • DNS — forward and reverse resolution.
  • ASN — map an IP/prefix to its autonomous system.
  • OUI — identify a NIC vendor from a MAC address.
  • WHOIS — registration data for an address or prefix.

Q&A

Q: What leaves my machine for a lookup?
A: Only the query you run (for example the MAC address for an OUI lookup), to the relevant lookup service. This is itemized on the security page.
Q: Do reverse DNS and WHOIS need configuration?
A: No setup is required for the standard lookups.
